Advocacy & Civic Engagement

HND views advocacy as a tool to raising the visibility and importance of the Hmong American community and its issues to policy makers, legislators, and key stakeholders in the greater American public. HND advocates on behalf of and strengthens the voice of local Hmong American communities at the national level through two approaches: advocacy & civic engagement activities, and policy advocacy.  At HND, we believe that advocacy is a tool that shapes the development and sustainability of the Hmong American community while affecting positive social change that strengthens the lives of Hmong American families. This comprehensive approach to civic engagement and policy advocacy allows HND to narrow its focus in addressing emerging challenges and issues faced by Hmong American communities across the United States.

Current Advocacy & Civic Engagement projects include:

  • Parental Involvement in K-12 Education Advocacy Trainings
  • Regional Collaboratives
  • Hmong Representation in the 2010 U.S. Census
  • Hate Crimes & Discrimination
  • Engaging Future Hmong Policy Leaders Workshop Series
