HOW WE AFFECT CHANGE

Capacity building, leadership development and advocacy & civic engagement are the vehicles HND uses to affect change in the organization’s three primary programming areas of economic development, education, and social justice. All of HND’s programming is thoughtfully designed and constructed with much attention paid to the importance of cultural enrichment and community engagement.

STRATEGIC CHANGE AREAS

Capacity Building

HND views capacity building as an effort to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of nonprofit organizations. Our notion of capacity building focuses on providing technical assistance, training, financial assistance and/or resources, and consultation to Hmong and non-Hmong organizations to improve their effectiveness in service, program, and mission delivery. HND believes that organizations can reach their mission and vision if given the proper support and guidance most appropriate to their organizational life stage. HND strengthens the Hmong community nationally by building the capacity of local Hmong organizations to better serve and meet the needs of Hmong communities across the country.

Leadership Development

HND views leadership as a process and a tool to creating progressive and proactive change within the Hmong American community. Leadership and leader development of are integral to the mission and vision of HND. As such the organization seeks multiple ways to provide services and programs that will develop the next generation of Hmong American leaders and the communities they reside in. Through leadership initiatives that encompass training, networking, educational opportunities, sharing of information and resources and hands-on development, HND is able to empower the Hmong American community to build upon their strengths and embrace new leadership ideologies and to take on leadership roles.
Advocacy & Civic Engagement

HND views advocacy as a tool to raising the visibility and importance of the Hmong American community and its issues to policy makers, legislators, and key stakeholders in the greater American public. HND advocates on behalf of and strengthens the voice of local Hmong communities at the national level through two approaches: advocacy & civic engagement activities, and policy advocacy. At HND, we seek to engage local communities and organizations in civic processes and activities by providing current information about federal, local and state policies and legislation. HND believes that advocacy is a tool that shapes the development and sustainability of the Hmong American community while affecting positive social change that strengthens the lives of Hmong American families.
