HND views advocacy as a tool to raising the visibility and importance of the Hmong American community and its issues to policy makers, legislators, and key stakeholders in the greater American public. HND advocates on behalf of and strengthens the voice of local Hmong American communities at the national level through two approaches: policy advocacy, and advocacy & civic engagement activities. At HND, we believe that advocacy is a tool that shapes the development and sustainability of the Hmong American community while affecting positive social change that strengthens the lives of Hmong American families. This comprehensive approach to civic engagement and policy advocacy allows HND to narrow its focus in addressing emerging challenges and issues faced by Hmong American communities across the United States. The backbone of HND's U.S. Advocacy Program is guided by the principle of affecting long-term social change that cultivates the development of the individual, the family, the organization, and the community in the United States. Additionally, the world is becoming more global as we look towards the future. As the only national, non-partisan, Hmong nonprofit organization located in Washington, DC, HND recognizes the need to increase and develop our global awareness, partnership, and participation in global affairs impacting the remaining Hmong populations overseas. Through HND's Global Advocacy Program, we hope to serve as a resource and an avenue in bringing to you the latest developments in Southeast Asia. As we look to expand and improve the Global Advocacy Program, HND remains committed to serving the needs of the Hmong American community in the United States. **HND is currently seeking interns interested in Laos and Thailand relations to serve as ProgramAssociates for the U.S. and Global Advocacy Program.
